Therapy for perimenopause & midlife changes in New Jersey.

The 3am wake-ups, the rage that arrives out of nowhere, the brain fog, the "why am I crying at a commercial" — you're not losing your mind. Your hormones are rewriting the rules, and you deserve support that gets it.

"Why don't I feel like myself anymore?"

It usually starts subtly, somewhere in your late 30s or 40s. Your sleep gets weird. Your patience gets thin. The PMS that used to last two days now colors two weeks. You snap at people you love, forget words mid-sentence, cry without a reason you can point to — and because your period still shows up, nobody (sometimes not even your doctor) connects the dots.

Perimenopause — the years-long hormonal transition before menopause — can scramble mood, anxiety, sleep, memory, libido, and identity. And it tends to land right when life is already at maximum load: kids who need you, parents who are aging, a career at full tilt. The result is a generation of women quietly wondering if they're falling apart.

You're not falling apart. You're in a transition that has a name, a biology, and real support — and as a perimenopause therapist working with women across New Jersey, helping you move through it is some of my favorite work.

you're not crazy — you're changing. there's a difference.

4–10 years
how long perimenopause can last support shouldn't wait that long — and neither should you

What perimenopause can stir up

  • Mood swings and rage that feel bigger than the moment — then guilt about who caught the shrapnel
  • Anxiety that shows up new, or cranks an old worry loop to eleven
  • Sleep disruption — 3am wide-awake sessions that leave you running on fumes
  • Brain fog — lost words, lost keys, and the scary "is this something worse?" spiral
  • Body and identity shifts — feeling invisible, mourning fertility even if your family is complete, meeting a reflection you don't recognize
  • Relationship strain — less patience, less desire, more friction, and a partner who "doesn't get what changed"

Any of these alone is manageable. All of them at once, unnamed? That's the storm. Naming it is the first relief.

the middle of your story, not the end

Culture treats midlife like a fade-out. In this room it's a plot twist — many women build their boldest chapter on the far side of this transition.

How perimenopause therapy helps

Therapy can't regulate your estrogen — that conversation belongs with your doctor, and I'll cheer you on in advocating for one who takes you seriously. What therapy does is everything the prescription pad can't:

  • Separate what's hormonal from what's situational, so you're treating the right problem
  • Build real tools for the rage, the anxiety spikes, and the 3am mind
  • Process the identity questions this season forces — aging, visibility, purpose, desire
  • Repair the relationship wear-and-tear, and script the conversations your partner needs to hear
  • Grieve what's shifting while claiming what's opening — because both are happening

Women's hormonal transitions are the through-line of my whole practice — pregnancy, postpartum, and this. The training that earned my PMH‑C is training in how hormones and mental health tangle — the exact tangle perimenopause throws at you. And if "who even am I now?" is the loudest thread, that's a specialty of mine too.

Perimenopause questions, answered

How do I know if it's perimenopause or "just" stress or depression?

Honestly? It's often both, tangled together — which is why untangling is step one of our work. Patterns matter: symptoms that track loosely with your cycle, new-onset rage or anxiety in your late 30s/40s, and sleep changes are classic perimenopause tells. Therapy helps sort the threads, and I'll encourage bloodwork and a hormone-literate doctor as a partner to our work.

I'm only 38. Isn't that too young?

Not at all — perimenopause commonly begins in the late 30s and can run 4–10 years. Being "too young for this" is one of the main reasons women go years without answers. Your experience is valid at any age it starts.

Do you take insurance for perimenopause therapy in New Jersey?

I'm out-of-network; sessions are $225 for 55 minutes, and many clients are reimbursed 50–70% through out-of-network benefits. Superbills provided, Mentaya files claims for you, and my fees page has a free benefits checker.
