The grief the world doesn't know what to do with

Maybe you were six weeks along and hadn't told anyone yet. Maybe you'd already picked a name. Maybe it was a miscarriage, a chemical pregnancy, a termination for medical reasons, a stillbirth, a failed transfer — every loss is its own loss, and every single one is allowed to hurt.

What makes pregnancy loss grief so lonely is how quickly the world moves on. The people around you mean well and say the wrong things — "at least it was early," "you can try again," "everything happens for a reason." Your body keeps reminding you. The due date is still circled somewhere. And you're left carrying something enormous that almost nobody saw.

As a pregnancy loss therapist working with women across New Jersey, I want you to hear this clearly: you didn't imagine it, you're not being dramatic, and you don't have to be "over it" by anyone's clock.

grief is love with nowhere to go — we'll find it a place, together

What people say — and what you deserve to hear

Grief after a loss rarely looks like the movies. It looks like falling apart in the baby aisle at Target, anger at pregnant strangers, "what did I do wrong?" on a loop (the answer, truly: nothing) — and fielding well-meant words that land like stones. Flip each one.

"At least it was early."

grief doesn't check the calendar

You weren't six weeks attached. You were a whole future attached — a name half-picked, a season already reimagined. Early doesn't mean small.

"You can always try again."

what you deserve to hear →
this baby was this baby

A next pregnancy — if you even want one — doesn't replace this one. You're allowed to grieve the baby you lost while deciding nothing about the future today.

"Everything happens for a reason."

what you deserve to hear →
some things just break your heart

You don't have to find meaning in this — not yet, maybe not ever. You're allowed to just be sad, and loved, at the same time.

"Aren't you over it by now?"

Due dates, anniversaries, Mother's Day, someone else's shower — grief keeps its own calendar. Yours is the only clock that counts here.

All of it is normal — the Target aisle tears, the anger, a partner who grieves differently until it feels like a wall. None of it has to be carried alone.

Some clients come to me the same month as their loss. Others come years later, when a new pregnancy — or someone else's — cracks everything back open. Whenever you arrive is the right time.

How pregnancy loss therapy helps

There's no fixing grief, and I won't pretend to. What miscarriage therapy offers is a place where your loss is treated as real — where you can say the baby's name, or admit you're furious, or confess that you felt relief mixed in with the sorrow, without managing anyone else's feelings about it.

Together, at whatever pace you set, we can:

  • Make room for the grief instead of white-knuckling around it
  • Quiet the guilt and the "what ifs" that loop at night
  • Navigate pregnancy after loss — the fear, the guarded heart, the milestones that double as landmines
  • Help you and your partner grieve alongside each other instead of past each other
  • Build rituals and boundaries for the hard dates — due dates, anniversaries, holidays, other people's showers

I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with the PMH‑C perinatal mental health certification, which includes specialized training in perinatal grief and loss. This isn't a detour from my work — it's the heart of it. And if your loss is tangled up with fertility treatment, I support women through infertility and IVF too — often those roads run through the same territory.

Online sessions across New Jersey, from wherever feels safe

All sessions are by secure video, anywhere in New Jersey. For this work especially, many clients tell me it matters to be at home — on your own couch, with your own tissues and your own tea, no waiting room small talk after the hardest hour of your week. Here's how online therapy works.

Sessions are $225 for 55 minutes, private pay, with superbills provided — many clients are reimbursed 50–70% through out-of-network benefits, and I partner with Mentaya to handle the claims. Check your benefits here in about 30 seconds.

Questions women ask me about loss

My loss was early. Do I even "qualify" for grief therapy?

Yes. Grief doesn't check gestational age. An early miscarriage can carry the full weight of the future you had already started living in — and needing support for that is not dramatic, it's human. If it hurt you, it counts.

It's been years. Is it too late to work through this?

Not at all — and you'd be in good company. Many women come to therapy years after a loss, often when a new pregnancy, a friend's announcement, or their child's questions stir everything up. Grief that never had a place to go simply waits. It's never too late to give it one.

Can you help with pregnancy after loss?

Yes — this is one of the most common reasons women reach out. Pregnancy after loss can feel like holding your breath for nine months. We work on managing the anxiety, honoring the baby you lost while bonding with the baby you're carrying, and getting through scans and milestones without falling apart in the parking lot.

Do you take insurance for pregnancy loss therapy in New Jersey?

I'm out-of-network, and many clients get 50–70% of the $225 session fee reimbursed through their out-of-network benefits. I provide superbills and partner with Mentaya to file the paperwork, and my fees page has a free 30-second benefits checker so you'll know your cost before we begin.
